Agriculture is the dominant economic activity in the Shire, with other industries existing largely to service this sector. Wheat is the favoured crop. The core operation of these businesses is providing products and services to the agricultural industry, with their sub-operations providing additional products and services to the community such as hardware, drapery, giftware, groceries, and clothing. 86% of businesses are locally owned which provides a stronger and more stable local economy due to the fact that local owners live and run a business in the town.
