Environmental Health/Building

The Shire employs a shared EHO/Building Surveyor, Mr Graeme Bissett, who services the shire every Thursday and can be contacted at the Shire Office.

Health Services are governed by the Health Act 1911 and are responsible for a range of services including swimming pool inspections, water sampling, home occupation licences, noise control, food protection, pollution control, infectious disease control and rubbish removal services.

Building services include all aspects involving building issues from construction to demolition. Council policy regarding Building Services are outlined below:

Unauthorised Structures

Where a building, work or structure is constructed in breach of any provisions of the Building Regulations 1989 and /or Building Code of Australia, the Building Surveyor is authorised to give notice to the owner for the building work or structure to conform with the building Regulations 1989 and/or building Code of Australia.

Prohibition of Unsightly Objects

No person shall cause, allow or permit to be placed on any lot an object which is visible from the street and in the opinion of Council is offensive, unsightly or otherwise considered to be detrimental to the amenity of the neighbourhood.

Where the land is to be used for the storage of goods, Council may required that land to be enclosed with a fence of suitable construction that the stored goods are not visible form the street.

Building Permit Application

The Building Surveyor shall approve/disapprove all building applications to conform with the Building Code of Australia. Application forms can be obtained from the Shire Office.

New Commercial Developments

Where a building application is approved for the construction of a new commercial premises Council will have regard to notifying statutory authorities such as Western Power, Water Authority and Telstra of these proposals to allow them to plan for the provision of new services.

Second Hand material

Council will disallow the use of second hand material during construction of buildings, unless in a suitable condition.

DrumMuster

Council provide DrumMuster collections throughout the year for the collection and disposal of chemical containers. These dates and times are widely advertised and it is essential bookings be made at the Shire if you wish to utilise the service.

Release of Draft Joint Shire Strategic Waste Management Plan for Public Comment

The Shire of Kulin, in collaboration with the Shires of Corrigin, Kondinin and Narembeen has prepared a joint Draft Strategic Waste Management Plan for public comment, a copy of which can be viewed by clicking on the pdf files below.

 

This plan has been prepared to meet the requirements set out by the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) and Waste Management Board addressed in their vision of Towards Zero Waste information which can be viewed at www.zerowastewa.com.au . This draft sets the current and future directions and initiatives of the above four Shires working together as a Regional Organisation of Council’s known as Roe ROC in relation to the collection, disposal and management of waste and recyclables for the next 5 to 10 years.

 

This is very much a working document and comments from all interested parties are invited. Submissions must be made in writing to the shire or by email to gbissett@corrigin.wa.gov.au .
